The battle cry of volleyball players from late 80’s cartoons becomes the social media hashtag #ATTACKNo1 launched by Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez for Spring – Summer 2015 Au Jour le Jour collection, presented during Milan Fashion Week, dropping a hint for an original style vision inspired by Japan and its modern-pop symbols.
From manga influences to the flavors of sushi, from colorful erasers to sports kits worn on the playing field, the collection expresses the brand’s unique chic&fun feel and reconfirms its perfect balance of glamour, creativity and refinement. Exclusive fabrics with shiny yarns. A graphic explosion of colors. Images that play with kittens, dolls, delicious ice-creams, juicy fruits, uramaki and milk cartons, right up to the iconic au jour le jour lips revisited in smoking, lollipops and soap bubbles versions.
The designers imagine a Tokyo college-girl always carrying her favorite bento box, transformed into a vain clutch bag made of printed plexiglass. Knitwear – sophisticated and hyper-feminine – ranges from ultralight weights to soft fluffy textures, with nylon and lurex strands worked in to enhance shine, as seen in the polo shirt+culottes outfit stolen from Mimi Ayuara’s volleyball bag.
Clean cut silhouettes, fitted and more fluid volumes, long or ultra-short lengths. Skirts are either corol-la-shaped or pleated, school aprons become dresses, bustler bras are worn under little jackets and overalls give a nod to the kimono. Jacquard fabrics are brought to life through 3D cartoons or embellished with longhaired furry effects. Chiffon transparencies blend with technical nylon for 24/7 windbreakers in a mix of colors. Denim aban-dons its workwear soul to reveal supersoft proportions, rips and gleaming sequin applications.
Sparkling effects also adorn tops, skirts and strappy dresses, layered with shirts and tees, alongside embroidered grapes, bananas and strawberries on the Alcantara pieces, creating a unique synergy between the high-tech material and prOt-a-porter. Finally, sneakers are crafted from leather or suede in countless colors, with one style interpreted in 3 different heights: from the low-top version worn on the runway with lurex socks to the super high-top gladiator featuring multiple straps.
